How To Root Galaxy Note 5 and Install TWRP Recovery

Few weeks ago, the new Galaxy Note 5 phablet was launched from Samsung in NYC & London. The phablet will likely feature similar specs to the Galaxy Note 4, which already pushed smartphone boundaries surprisingly far. Resolution of screen same as note 4, 1440×2560 pixels & 5.7-inch AMOLED screen. And other specs of Note 5 are include Corning Gorilla Glass 4 screen protection, 4GB of RAM, & a 16MP Rear camera with optical image stabilization. About software, Galaxy Note 5 will also likely come with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS & processor for Note 5 will likely use the 64 bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, which powers Premium Tier mobile experiences. So with the powerful processor in note 5 you can stream 4K ultra HD videos. So this was all about new Note 5 specs, now today we’re here to root new phablet Note 5. In this article, we will show how you can easily root your Note 5 & Install TWRP Recovery.

How To Root Galaxy Note 5 and Install TWRP Recovery

Before we start, let me remind you – this rooting method is available only for SM-N920T & SM-N920P Galaxy Note 5 models and very soon other models will get the same. Root voids your warranty. So whatever happens to your phone, is your responsibility. The steps given in the upcoming tutorial are correct to your knowledge, but even then, remember, whatever you do, do it at your own risk.

With the disclaimer done, lets get started –


  • Do take the Full Backup of your files such as Android Apps, SMS, Contacts, Call Logs, Bookmarks.
  • Samsung Drivers – First you need to install ADB and Fastboot Drivers on your windows PC and then Samsung drivers. You can follow our this two guide: » How To Install ADB and Fastboot Drivers On Windows 7, 8, 8.1 & 10 » List of Android USB Drivers For Windows & Mac
  • Enable USB Debugging mode – Go to settings -> About Device -> Tap seven times on build number -> Then go back and Open developer mode -> Check on USB Debugging.
  • Battery – If your phone switched off during this process, it could brick or damage the device. So, Make sure that battery is full charged or near about 50-70% battery level.

How To Root Samsung Galaxy Note 5

Step 1: As we mention above, that this rooting method is available only for SM-N920T & SM-N920P models, So download Kernel zip file & extract it on your desktop.

Step 2:  Now you will need Odin3 flash tool to flash the Noble kernel files on your phone. You can Download Odin Tool from below download button & extract the folder on your desktop.

Step 3: Afterwards, Switch off your device and boot in download mode, Steps to boot in download mode – Press volume down, power & home buttons altogether at the same time to go to Download Mode & connect your PC to your device.

Step 4: Now open ODIN.exe file from the ODIN folder that you extracted in step 2, & then click on the AP button. New file explorer box will pop-up, you have to navigate to the folder where the extracted Noble Kernel file is (in step 1) and select it. And make sure re-partition is NOT ticked under the Options tab.

Step 5: Then, hit the “Start” button at the bottom of the Odin tool to start the process. Now the flashing process will start on your device and this will take some time.

Step 6: Once process completed, your device will reboot.

Step 7: That’s it! Now last step, go the Google play store and install the Super SU app on your Galaxy Note 5 & run that app to get the root access.

How To Install TWRP Recovery on Note 5 

Step 1: First of all, you will need to download TWRP file for SM-N920T/N920P from below download button and save it on your desktop.

Step 2: Now again boot your device in download mode (As mention in above Step 3) & run the Odin tool and click on the AP button. This time select that TWRP downloaded file the tar.md5 TWRP file and hit start button.

That’s it.
