What is a Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7? and Identifying Generation?
After so many months later, I came back because of some medical issues but now, very well fine and in last months I received so many mails and comments about What are Core i3?, What are Core i5?, What are i7?, How many cores in the i3, i5 & i7, etc.
Like this comment by SK Nohri on my last article “What are Dual Core, Quad Core, Hexa Core & Octa Core Processors?”. Same like this so many mails in our “Contact us” & “Contact Me” inbox. So, now I’m good and free from some diseases then today I’m going to explain and clearly all what is exactly about core i3, core5 & core i7. Let’s get started..
What is a Core i3, Core i5, or Core i7?
Tip for Confused Peoples : Don’t compare Intel Processors and Smartphones because their is lot of difference between a Processor & in Smartphones. I’m just comparing only for your doubts & confusions between core i3, core5 & core i7 processors. Most importantly read this article first – What Are Dual Core, Quad Core, Hexa Core & Octa Core Processors?
First of all just think about what is Intel doing? Intel Co. doing his job like we seen Samsung’s ‘S’ Series & Apple’s ‘iPhone’ Series. Yes, there are just upgrading there parts for marketing & for us choices. Every year Intel launch their new product with some customized & with new updates. So, it means obviously latest version will be great new updates.
So, whenever we go to buy some new Laptop or Computer, sometimes we get confused in these some questions “Which one is best for us, right? or “Which one is newly launched in market?” Right? So here is the solution for that : If you think newly launched in market will be best for you? then you’re the dumbest person on this planet. Before going to buy any product, Question yourself for what purpose you want like for Office Work? for Gaming? for some heavy software’s like Animation & Photoshop?, Tally?etc. If you’re going for anything then you are wasting money. So, following in chart we’ve explained it in shortly:
|Processor||Cores||Cache Size||Hyper-Threading||Turbo Boost||Graphics||Price|
Full Explanation with Which One is Best for You:
» Core i3
Intel Core i3 is the basic processor & it will be comes with Dual Core means two cores then it doesn’t matter you bought laptop or desktop. It will be same. In chart, you can see Hyper Threading is there in Core i3 column. It means, it will comes with Hyper Threading enabled.
Hyper Threading is a technology means your Dual Core system will be act like Quad Core system. It’s clock speed & frequencies will be in different like 2.1GHz or 2.5GHz,etc. Another is Cache, there is 3MB Cache in Core i3. Cache also important its dependent upon you which model you purchased. Cache memory helps to improve and makes faster your desktop or laptop. More Cache MB More Faster Your Work Done. I will write another article on “Cache” for your more information.
Question: Now for whom Core i3 is the Best?
Answer: If you’re a normal user means if you do normal browsing internet, using MS-OFFICE , etc. OR if you do normal gaming with graphic card, then for them Core i3 is more than enough.
» Core i5
Intel Core i5 is in two variants that is, In laptops you will get Dual Core Processor and in Desktop you will get Quad Processor. As you can see in Chart that Hyper Threading will not get you. But in reality that is Hyper Threading, you will not get in Desktop but you’ll get in Laptops. As I said, desktop have already comes with Quad Core but in Laptop with Hyper Threading it will work same as Desktop. In comparison between Core i3 and Core i5, you can see Core i5 is better because it will give you a more cache memory, more speed and also in performance it is good because it also comes with Turbo Boost.
Question: Where to use Core i5 Processor?
Answer: If you are gaming (with graphics card) then for gaming purpose it will best and also if you are using other heavy software’s Photoshop, tally, etc.
» Core i7
I think, I don’t need to explain about Core i7 you can just scroll up and look its specifications. This is the best consumer available in market. In you will get everything Best in Intel Core 7 i.e more cores, more cache memory, Hyper-Threading enabled, Better onboard Graphics, Faster Turbo Boost and one more thing we forget that it is also best in price 😆 . Yes, it is Expensive because the Core i7 represents optimum thing Intel could build for given use case with higher price tag. As I said earlier that more cache memory = more faster your device, So It is the Faster & also Best in performance.
Question: Where we can use Core i7 Processor?
Answer: If you are doing something high-end work like Audio Video Editing, 3D Graphic Designing or you’re pro gamer or Ultra HD Gaming so in that case this processor will be the best and then only you should purchase this processor.
Now One More Important Question Left i.e How we can Identify the generation of the processors ?
Now, how to check the generation of processors like 3rd Generation, 4th Generation, 5th Generation, etc? Don’t get confused its easy! Because Intel’s processors naming is very simple. It means you can easily identify the generation of processor for eg. Core i7-4500 and i7-5500 then just look at the first number. If its 4500 then it is 4th Generation & if its 5500 then it is 5th Generation. So whenever you purchasing laptop or desktop then don’t look at only i3, i5 or i7 also check the generation number. If you’re still confused just check out the following picture of my laptop’s processor name with highlighted & also picture taken from Intel’s Official website :-
